On April 13th, the 29th workshop on “Training Program for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology Development” was started in Shao Library of Xidian University, organized by the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) under the Auspices of UNESCO, XJTU and XDU. There are more than 50 foreign students from Xidian University registered for the program. They are from the relative countries along the “One Belt One Road” initiative including Thailand, Pakistan, Nigeria, etc.
During the opening ceremony, dean of Continuing Education School of XJTU Mr. Zhang Pingchuan delievered speech, expressing the appreciation for the support on the training program from Xidian University and emphasizing that the training program represents the further development of “One Silk One Road” initiative in education area.
Dean of School of International Education of XDU Ms. Cao Jing expressed the appreciation to XJTU for holding the training program during the speech. And she sincerely wished international students would gain knowledge from the lectures.
Student representative Kulpornphan Aurawan from Thailand used the example of the cooperation between China and Thailand in her speech, explaining how “One Belt One Road” initiative promoted the social and economic development in neighbour countries. She said that “Friendship” is the theme of relationship between China and Thailand and it is also the base for relationship’s further development. When people asked her where is Xi’an, she would always say Xi’an is the start of Silk Road and the key city of “One Belt One Road” initiative.
The program was taught in English focusing on the topic of “Advanced Information Technology”. The workshop included such contents as Advanced Information Technology and Introduction to Chinese Tradition. Lectures and interactions between the courses allow foreign students who participate in the program to learn knowledge and make the class interesting. At the same time, the program arranged students’ visit to ZTE, which expanded students’ horizon.
Now, there have been 29 training programs for Silk Road engineering science and technology development, which have cultivated thousands of foreign students and export-oriented staff from more than 90 countries. As an important mission of the sub-center of IKCEST, this training program plays an important role in cultivating talents and promoting "One Belt and One Road" initiative. In the meantime, it is also exploring the development direction for projects initiated by XJTU, such as University Alliance of the Silk Road and Silk Road International Academy.
