The Silk and Road Training Base: The 44th IKCEST Training Program for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology was Successfully Held in XJTU
From Oct. 29th to Nov. 2nd, the 44th workshop on “Training Program for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology Development” was held in the College of Distance Learning, XJTU under the auspices of International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) UNESCO and co-organization of XJTU. Over 50 foreign students from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Chang’an University, and Xidian University participated in this training program. They were from over 10 Belt-road countries, such as Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Nigeria etc.
The training program lasted for five days, and the following lectures such as “Innovative Through Interdisciplinary Research”, “Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine”, “Polyhydroxyalkanoate Nanoparticles and the Applications in Biotechnology and Biomedicine”, “The Chinese Culture and One Belt One Road” were given by experienced professors. The in-class teaching has been taken as main teaching method, while teacher-student interaction, on-line and off-line communication as supplement.
Besides, two outdoor activities were listed on the training program in order to make the students have a comprehensive and better understanding about Chinese culture and history, namely, visit to the Shaanxi History Museum and attendance to the commemoration ceremony of 1000th China-Euro Express Train. On the afternoon of Oct. 30th, thirty-five foreign students, as representatives from IKCEST Training Base in the 44th IKCEST Training Program for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology participated the event. This event had great social significance since it strengthened the cooperation between school of Continuing Education and International Trade & Logistic Park, deepened the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement on One Belt One Road, expanded the training base, promoted the construction of the "the Belt and Road". In Nov. 1st, under the guidance of our staff, more than 40 foreign students visited the Shaanxi History Museum. Professor Wanxiang, Institute of Modern and Contemporary History of China, gave a full explaination on three exhibition halls, namely, the gestation, emergence and development of ancient civilization in Shaanxi Province. Foreign students showed great interest in exquisite bronzes, terra-cotta wares, and tricolor-glazed pottery of the Tang Dynasty. They spoke glowingly about the advanced handicraft of ancient China and the wisdom of Chinese ancestors when they saw exquisite gold and silver wares of the Tang Dynasty.
Till now, with the help of School of Continuing Education, the IKCEST silk road training base has successfully held 44 sessions and cultivated more than 2,000 foreign students from over 90 countries, and staff from Chinese companies that will invest in Silk Road countries. This training program, as an important work of silk road training base, will play an important role in training the talents of Belt-road countries and serving to the development of One Belt One Road Initiative. Meanwhile, it was also an exploration for a series of works sponsored by Xi'an Jiaotong University, such as the Silk Road University Alliance and the Silk Road International College. It also made important contributions to the economic and social development of Europe, Asia and Africa along Belt-road countries.
