The Silk and Road Training Base: The 45th IKCEST Training Program for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology was Successfully Held in XJTU
From Nov. 9th to Nov. 14th, under the guidance of Chinese Academy of Engineering, the 45th workshop on “Training Program for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology Development” was held in the Silk Road Training Base, XJTU under the auspices of International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) UNESCO and co-organization of XJTU. 38 foreign students from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Chang’an University, and Xidian University participated in this training program. They were from over 20 Belt-road countries, such as Pakistan, Nigeria, Congo etc.
The training program lasted for about one week, and the following lectures such as “Big Data Processing and Deep Learning”, “Big Data over Wireless Networks: Challenges and Applications”, “The Basic Operation Method of Tuina and Application to Health Care and Treatment of Common Diseases”, “From Bench to Bed: the Miracle of Emily Whitehead”, “ Regulation of Gene Expression”, and online courses “ The Belt and Road: Past and Future, Opportunities and Challenges” were given by experienced professors. The in-class teaching has been taken as main teaching method, while teacher-student interaction as supplement. Teachers also integrated theory with practice, and dealt with a subject with profundity and an easy-to-understand approach. Foreign students have a simple understanding of big data, genetic engineering and basic manipulation methods of massage, and have expressed their desire to further study such courses and make contributions to the development of science, technology and medical care after returning to their countries.
In addition, in order to make the foreign students have a better understanding of the development of science and technology, on the afternoon of Nov. 14th, over 20 foreign students, as representatives from IKCEST Training Base in the 45th IKCEST Training Program for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology visited the National Engineering Research Center of Rapid Manufacturing. Under the leadership of the staff of the exhibition hall, the foreign students came to the working desktop 3D printer. A thin line pipe began to work like spring silkworm spinning. The line pipe was connected with the raw material box above and the print head below. The print head dragged the line pipe to move back and forth on the platform, forming a fish bone shape where it passed. It was the first time that the foreign students saw the 3D products so closely, and they all took out mobile phones to take photos. In addition, the students also visited the space parts, human skeleton and small animals printed by 3D technology. These exhibits cover industries, biomedical, cultural creativity, family decoration and other fields. Foreign students have repeatedly praised the magic of modern science and technology. At the end of the visit, the engineer, Mr. Li Yizhe, also led to understand the technical principles and application prospects of 3D printing, which further enhanced the foreign students' perceptual understanding of modern science and technology.
Till now, with the help of School of Continuing Education, the IKCEST silk road training base has successfully held 45 sessions and cultivated more than 3,000 foreign students from over 107 countries, and staff from Chinese companies that will invest in Silk Road countries. This training program, as an important work of silk road training base, will play an important role in training the talents of Belt-road countries and serving to the development of One Belt One Road Initiative. Meanwhile, it was also an exploration for a series of works sponsored by Xi'an Jiaotong University, such as the Silk Road University Alliance etc. It also made important contributions to the economic and social development of Europe, Asia and Africa along Belt-road countries.
