From November 8^th to 10^th, The International Symposium on Engineering & Technological Talents Cultivation for One Belt One Road Countries & The Thirteenth International Symposium On Technological & Educational Development Strategies was held in HangZhou, with the aim of promoting international communication and cooperation between Belt-Road countries in engineering education, strengthening mutual learning in engineering technology, culture, spirits and standards, and exchanging experiences in engineering education reforms. The Symposium was jointly held by Zhejiang University and Chinese Academy of Engineering, under the guidance of Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education, Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of Ministry of Education, and China Association of Higher Education. Mr. Wu Yan, director of Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education, Academia Hu Wenrui, director of Engineering Management Department of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and other distinguished guests attended the symposium. About 400 attendees of presidents or vice presidents from well-known universities within and outside China, like Zhejiang University, TsingHua University, Chongqing University, University of Novi Sad, and University of Raman of Malaysia, and delegates from European Society of Engineering Education, and Korean Society of Engineering Education, attended the symposium. A delegation of Xi’an Jiaotong University led by vice president Zheng Qinghua attended the symposium.

During the symposium, as the founding members, Xi’an Jiaotong University and other nine Universities like Zhejiang University, TsingHua University, University of Novi Sad, University of Raman of Malaysia etc. initiated the foundation of One Belt One Road Alliance of Engineering Education, whose aim is to make engineering and science better serve the building of One Belt One Road, and therefore promoting cooperation in the fields of the development of engineering and technological talents cultivation, of transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and of data information docking. This will finally help China’s engineering technology, culture, spirits, and standards step out of China and better serve Facility interconnection among the Belt-Road countries.

Vice president Zheng Qinghua gave a keynote speech of Exploration & Practice of One Belt One Road Training of Engineering and Technology, in which he shared Xi’an Jiaotong University’s experiences in establishing data platform, accumulating resources, building curriculum system, facilitating international exchanges and cooperation, and promoting standards etc., by introducing IKCEST SRTB’s practical experiences. Under the task framework of IKCEST, SRTB explored and developed the technological platform of Engineering & Scientific Knowledge Service System (supporting multi languages of English, Russian and Arabic). By collecting over 800,000 entries of data on the culture, education, science and technology, policy, laws, industries etc. of Belt-Road countries under the intensive work of over 30 staff members, and making full use of Xi’an Jiaotong University’s advantageous disciplines, SRTB has successfully developed 14 off-line training programs on Theories of Internet of Things and Its Innovative Application, Practical Innovation of Artificial Intelligence, ect., holding 46 sessions till recently, benefiting 3071 attendees from 105 Belt-Road countries. In 2018 alone, 21 sessions of the training programs have been conducted, benefiting 1226 attendees from 72 Belt-Road countries, 915 of whom obtained certificates. Besides conducting training programs in China, SRTB has successfully taken its first and second steps out of China and offered training programs in Rangsit University of Thailand, and Novosibirsk University of Russia in 2018, which indicates a giant step forward for China’s education resources to better serve the world. Also in 2018, SRTB, jointly with ISTIC of UNESCO South-South Cooperation, successfully held the training program of Application of Big Data Technology for Developing Countries, with educational officials and big data personnel from Malaysia, Laos, Mauritius, Nigeria, Cambodia, and Iran ect. benefiting greatly from the training.
