A higher education delegation from Malawi visited Xi'an Jiaotong University on the morning of May 9th. Yan Hong, vice president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, met with the guests in conference room 107 of the Science Building. Di Dehai, dean of the School of Continuing Education, Shi Binyin, head of the First Affiliated Hospital, Ho Changzhong, director of the Department of International Cooperation & Exchange, and representatives from IKCEST Silk Road Training Base attended the meeting.
Vice President Yan Hong first extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He then introduced that Xi 'an Jiaotong University is one of the oldest universities in China, and is trying to become a world-class university. When talking about the cooperation plan with Malawi, Yan Hong pointed out that the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University is outstanding in the research and treatment of cancer and other diseases, and hoped to develop more pragmatic cooperation with African universities in the future.
Di Dehai, the dean of the School of Continuing Education, introduced the development of continuing education in Xi'an Jiaotong University, with the focus on the background and the training courses of the IKCEST Silk Road Training Base. He also expressed the hope that the cooperation in online and off-line education with universities in Malawi could be developed, so as to give full play to the advantages and leading role of higher education and cultivate excellent talents for the medical cause of Malawi.
Billy Gama, head of the delegation and chairman of the board of the University of Malawi, expressed his pleasure of visiting China and Xi 'an Jiaotong University. He praised Xi 'an Jiaotong University's role as a world famous university and its high reputation in Malawi. Billy mentioned that cooperation between Xi'an Jiaotong University and Malawi has formally started in 2018, not long after the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Malawi in 2007. He hoped that Malawian education could cooperate with Xi 'an Jiaotong University in various fields, especially in medicine. Finally, he wished the friendship between China and Malawi would last forever and warmly welcomed more experts and delegations to visit Malawi for exchange.
Some members of the delegation, such as professor Al Mtenje, vice president of the University of Malawi, professor Jonathan Makuwira, vice-president of Malawi University of Science and Technology, professor Fred Msiska, vice president Mzuzu University, professor Lewis Dzimbiri, vice president of University of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Lilongwe etc., introduced their respective schools, and raised questions and fully inquired about the training system of medical personnel, online doctoring, university management system, female education, construction and operations management of E-hospital and other aspects of Xi 'an Jiaotong University.
This meeting laid an important foundation for the development of IKCEST Silk Road Training Base in Africa. The IKCEST Silk Road Training Base will take this opportunity to further promote the development of IKCEST Silk Road Training Programme for Engineering Science and Technology Development on a global scale, pay more attention to the training of African talents especially the development of female education, and explore a development path of talent cultivation for the Belt and Road Initiative.
