On the evening of April 4th, 2019, sponsored by UNESCO International Knowledge Center for Engineering, Sciences and Technology (IKCEST) and jointly conducted by Xi'an Jiaotong University and Xi'an Shiyou University, the 50th Silk Road Special Training Program on Engineering, Scientific and Technological Development & Xi'an Shiyou University's 1st Special Training program on Silk Road Strategies for International Students was successfully unveiled in Xi'an Shiyou University. Professor Tao WenQuan, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the opening ceremony as a distinguished guest, and gave a keynote lecture to all the trainees of this program. Professor Di DeHai, dean of School of Continuing Education of Xi'an Jiaotong University, vice president Chen JunBin from Xi'an Shiyou University, and directors and deans from the Office of Educational Administration, Office of International Exchange and Cooperation, School of International Education from Xi'an Shiyou University all attended the opening ceremony, together with the students.
Vice president Chen JunBin from Xi'an Shiyou University first gave a welcoming speech, and warmly welcomed Professor Tao WenQuan and the whole IKCEST Silk Road training team. He expressed his gratitude to the School of Continuing Education for co-holding this special training program, and also congratulated Xi'an Shiyou University for being able to hold this Silk Road special training program. In his speech, Vice president Chen JunBin also shared his own experiences as student and as researcher, and pointed out the significance of this Silk Road special training program in strengthening the trainees' understanding about scientific research. He finally wished that all the foreign students taking this program will attentively take all the lectures, actively visit all the teaching labs, passionately participate in all interactions to build up hand-on experiences, which will surely enrich their professional knowledge, strengthen their practical skills and broaden their horizons. He also wished that all the foreign students would help further promote cultural, educational and technological communication and exchange between China and their home country under the One Belt One Road Initiatives.
Professor Di DeHai, dean of the School of Continuing Education of Xi'an Jiaotong University, introduced the background of the establishment of IKCEST Silk Road Training Base in Xi'an Jiaotong University, and the objectives and significance of its development. He also introduced all the lecturers and subjects of the 50th special training program, and expressed the wish that this program would help foreign students share the achievements of China's technological development and cutting-edge technology in the world. He said that the training program aimed to promote global sharing of cultural and technological development in the world, and contribute to the development of friendship and cooperation among Belt-Road countries, which will ultimately promote the common development and prosperity of all countries in the world.
Ronald, a Uganda student studying in Xi'an Shiyou University, spoke as a students representative on the opening ceremony. He first expressed his gratitude to IKCEST Silk Road Training Base, the School of Continuing Education of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Xi'an Shiyou University for jointly offering all foreign students this precious opportunity of training. He said that, with all the leading professors and researchers in cutting-edge technological areas giving an extensive range of lectures, all the students should spare no effort in learning. He also expressed his wish that all foreign students in the program shall in the future make full use of their expertise and contribute their effort to further development of the cultural and technological communication and exchange between China and Belt-Road countries.
Professor Tao WenQuan took a picture together with all attendees before the opening ceremony. After the opening ceremony, professor Tao WenQuan gave the foreign students a lecture on the subject of Applications of Numerical Simulation in Energy Engineering Research. Though already at the age of 80, professor Tao WenQuan conducted his two-and-a-half-hour lecture standing on the stage. His passionate, authoritative, and professional cutting-edge English speech drew the full attention of the whole audience. After his lecture, professor Tao WenQuan answered all the questions from and had good interaction with the students. All foreign students attending this program ranked this lecture as their best lecture ever taken, and said that this lecture helped them better understand the state-of-the-art development of the field and benefited them greatly.
This special training program is the first time that Xi'an Shiyou University cooperated with IKCEST Silk Road Training Base and Xi'an Jiaotong University on the further implementation of One Belt One Road Initiatives, and aims to contribute its effort to the talents cultivation of Belt-Road countries. This program also aims to improve the educational level and standards of international students , and promote the cultural, technological and educational communication and exchanges between China and Belt-Road countries, which will ultimately make significant contribution to the economic and social development of the Belt-road countries in Asia, Europe and Africa etc.
